Rent a bike Amsterdam doesn’t reimburse any repair costs made by other companies. You get the security deposit back in cash when you return your bike (as long as it comes back in the same condition). Do you want to rent the bike longer? Then you will need to do that at one of our shops. If the bikes are damaged you will need to pay for that.
If the municipality removes the bike then you will need to pick this up yourself at the depot AFAC of the municipality. If you don’t return the bike then we’ll file a report at the police. Any extra costs made will be passed to a collection agency.
16. Skateboards, roller blades and non-motorized foot scooters/steps…What does the law say?
Steps/non-motorized footscooters, skateboards, roller blades …exactly where are you allowed to navigate your new set of wheels? What are the rules?
Users of what we will term as ‘non-motorized modes of transportation’, such as skateboards, non-electric wheelchairs, roller blades etc, must adhere to the laws that are in place for pedestrians when moving at walking speed, and; when moving at a faster speed the same laws as those that are in place for cyclists apply.
The laws that other road users must abide by in relation to pedestrians and cyclists also apply when it comes to other ‘non-motorized modes of transportation’.
So when you are traveling at walking speed you must abide by laws for pedestrians which means using the sidewalks and designated footpaths or passable elevated curbs. If those options aren’t available then you can also use passable ground level curbs or parking zones/spaces. If this also is not an option, you are permitted to pass using a bicycle path. Obviously make sure that there is no other oncoming traffic before passing, as to avoid hindering cyclists or causing a collision. Only if all these options are not available, can you use the road whilst remaining as close to the side of the road as possible and, unless this is impossible.
What rules apply if you are using a wheelchair, skateboard or a step/scooter on a public road traveling faster than walking speed? Then you must use the bicycle paths. If there are no designated bicycle paths then you can use the road. Please note that you can use empty parking zones/spaces and ground level roadsides (righthand side of the road as close as possible to the side), however you must grant priority/right-of-way to other vehicles.
Outside of urban/built-up areas you are allowed to use sidewalks or elevated curbs. Freeways and highways are always forbidden/prohibited.
Other laws for cyclists must also be abided by, such as priority/right-of-way (eg. Giving priority to pedestrians using pedestrian-crossing).
When visibility diminishes in the evening as the sun sets and visibility is less than 200m, you are required by law to use a white reflector/light at the front and red reflector/light at the rear when using the bicycle path or the road. They are allowed to be two-in-one reflectors/lights and are allowed to flash. You can attach this to your clothing or to your chosen mode of transport (non-motorized mode of transport).
